WNAE Statement Concerning Ralph Messer, Eddie Long Ritual

The Worldwide Nazarene Assembly of Elohim repudiates the ritual orchestrated Sunday January 29th 2012, by Ralph Messer at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta.

In this bizarre ritual Ralph Messer, claiming to be a Jewish Rabbi, wrapped mega-church pastor and accused child molester Eddie Long in a Torah Scroll, referred to it's mantle as a foreskin that needed to be removed, and crowned Eddie Long a King. All of this as part of a Sunday worship Church service!

Messer is not recognized by the WNAE and is not regarded as any part of the Nazarene community. Messer is operating entirely outside the Nazarene community. Additionally, his representation that he acts on behalf of the Jewish people is baseless.

This "invented" ritual was disrespectful to the Torah. It was a profane use of a Torah Scroll with no basis in any tradition of Judaism, Rabbinic or Nazarene. The only time in which Jews have been wrapped in Torah Scrolls, was in ancient times when Romans wrapped Jews in Torah Scrolls and burned them alive!

It is blasphemous to describe the Torah as "a foreskin," which needs to be removed, to declare a man to be "king" in a Torah ritual and to misuse a tallit in such a profane matter.

Respect of the Torah is a central tenant of Nazarene Judaism. We as Nazarenes stand with the Rabbinic Jewish community in declaring that this ceremony was profane, inappropriate, blasphemous, offensive and disturbing.

In my opinion, messer and Long are pure evil that foist themselves off as "good." if they are 'good" then they are good for nothing -- utterly worthless blasphemers. These men and trheir ilk gives all true believers a black eye. At best they are an embarassment to all decent brothers and sisters.

When I first saw him years ago I was coming out of watching the whole TBN thing and preachers of that ilk. Then I saw him in a video and my stomach turned. There was something in that "charismatic" thing I didn't like.
