"mikah, great comments! However, I respectively disagree with one thing! In the Scriptures, Believers in Yeshua were called Nazarenes (Acts 24:5) and Christians/Messianics (Acts 11:26) by our detractors! The truth is that we are Israel- not a sect of…"

Who are the people of Elohim today?

Today, there is a great theological dispute in the Body of Messiah as to whom the people of Elohim truly are. Some Believers maintain that Elohim has replaced Israel with the church and that every biblical end of the age prophecy regarding Israel is by default a reference to the church. This doctrine is known as “replacement theology!” Other Believers maintain that Elohim has two groups of elect: Israel and the church. This doctrine is known as “separation theology!” Still others maintain that…See More

About me:
Hello! My name is Stephen Otto, founder of Let There Be Truth Ministry. My family consists of my wife, Salina, my oldest daughter, Corey, and her husband, Jeff Bailey Jr., and my youngest daughter, Tamara. We are all Believers.

I was raised Catholic; however, a spiritual void in my life caused me to become an agnostic. In 1984, my wife challenged me to prove my long-held contention that, “the Bible belongs in the fantasy section of Barnes & Noble.” I eagerly accepted her challenge and proceeded to attempt to prove the Bible wrong. To this end, I thrust myself into a critical examination of the Bible. In the end, though, despite the fact that I gave it my best effort, the Bible proved me wrong. I concluded that it is indeed the inspired word of God.

During this time, I also studied the doctrines of Catholic Church and the various Protestant denominations, including those of the Jehovah Witnesses and the Mormons. Sadly, they all fell short of what the Bible actually teaches. So it was, then, that my wife and I began to attend services with the Worldwide Church of God, a church that upheld the Ten Commandments, God’s Feast Days and the biblical dietary laws.

My wife and I were members of the Worldwide Church of God for about eight years when I realized that I had been going through the motions for some time. Making things worse was the fact that at this time we discovered that the church had somewhat of a tarnished past. As a result, we stopped attending church in 1992.

It took about ten years before I recovered, but when I did, I began to study the Bible independently. I think of this stage of my spiritual development as my “wilderness”- the place where I finally found God, just as the Israelites had done long, long ago.

In time, I learned that a number of the doctrines of the Worldwide Church of God were false. Don’t get me wrong though! This is not to say that the church was a “bad” church. The truth is that all churches are imperfect because they are comprised of imperfect people. In fact, doctrinally speaking, the church stood high above all other churches. The point is; however, that if we are to find truth, we must look past the church and rely on God as our ultimate source of truth.
