"Beryl, I see, after some months off line, your comments still show depth, on which at times I can agree to disagree, but still enjoyed their structure. A pity that a half-continent precludes closer discussion over coffee or tea."

Profile Information

Do you consider yourself a:
Christian
Books I consider Canonical:
Tanak (Old Testament), Ketuvim Netzarim (New Testament)
Favorite version of Scriptures:
Other
About me:
I am a fundamentalist, believing what is said is said and is meant. But I also believe that steel sharpens steel in study and that word meanings, culture and circumstances of the time(s), etc. have to be looked at or we can go down some awfully twisting rabbit trails that have briers waiting for us. Am currenly less constrained in activities due to death of my spouse last February after a decade-plus of illness, so enjoy the give and take of pages such as these. Later I may return to academic involvements, even if no more than faculty masthead and occasional guest lecturer.
Marital Status
Single
Music:
Smooth, whether some of the current groups that have been orchestrated or older. I can "take" most cultures' music for a while, but my preference is European-based.
Interests:
Name it, I generally like learning more about "it" even if the body's "go" does not always respond to the "in" clutching of the mind. I recall a few others like this...Peter Drucker's careful scrutiny of a new motorcycle at Claremont, etc. when I was there as a Fellow; some NA acquaintances' discussions on ancient americas, the "Alexander of Americas" campaign, etc.
Favorite Television Shows and Movies:
Shows? Not many, for there are so many that promulgate the gospels (recall, a religion does not have to acknowledge God) of evolution, or Marxism or derivations thereof. I wonder why those who promote such are among the first to "go" when these beliefs are successful in dominance in a culture. Possibly because they are rebels against their current and therefore any future authority?
Evolution--survival of the "fittest" and the fittest therefore have obligation to remove the less fit; e.g. National Socialism, which never bodes well for the. Some of the oriental is/was as bad and resulted in ongoing purges that killed millions.
Marxism--ever changing dogma and apologetics that resulted in the liquidation of the old guard and 10-millions of others. This is still alive and well, though not as powerful in cultures that have experienced its impact.
Anyway for movies--those that are faithful to the book, which the Russian version of War and Peace mostly was, those that are clean and not opportunistic vulgarity. For TV I simply have to pick and choose.
What is your favorite Book of the Scriptures?
I really do not have one. Scripture is a seamless web.(Though some does scratch my ears better than other)
What is your favorite verse?
Any teaching salvation, and any that support our faith, and our hope in troubles that come, or, coming troubles? End times passages and prophecies are comfortably frightening..though this seems an oxymoron. They are like reading AOL news posts or the local daily any more. I have my views on the coming catching away, and they are traditional "pre"...but I wonder just how deep tribulation can or will reach before it transitions into "Great," for I know what happened in Germany, Russia, Japan, China, & in the past-present century..this can happen here in our land of blissful unawareness. This is up to God the Father to say when.
What is your favorite quote? (From Scripture or elsewhere)
Most applicable are those pertinent to personal salvation and "hope to cope" Most others are edifying and helpful sooner or later (or they would not be in the Scriptures). It seems the right ones come to mind at the right time.

Joe, let the Holy Spirit solve the problems that go beyond human abilities. our business is to heed and keep. so much "theologizing" will always result into heresy and headache. : )
