It appears that the ancient Hebrews had the practice of hebraicizing names.
F.ex, the name of the gentile king Bel-Shar-Usur is hebraicized in the scriptures as "בֵּלְשַׁאצַּ֣ר", pronounced "Beleshatzar" (later anglicized as "Belshazzar.")
