Only of we worship them. Otherwise, no more than your photograph, or the "icons" on your computer screen. As far as I know even the most Orthodox Jews have no objection to chess/

James is right. The 2nd Commandment states that we are not to bow down to or otherwise worship graven images. Who in his right mind would bow to and worship the King or Queen or Rook or Bishop or Knight or Pawn chess piece(s)? : ) I myself love the game of chess, but in no wise do I worship the game or its pieces. -Ed
