1 Corinthians 15:29 - any ideas on this one?

(WH) Κορινθίους ά 15:29 επει τι ποιησουσιν οι βαπτιζομενοι υπερ των νεκρων ει ολως νεκροι ουκ εγειρονται τι και βαπτιζονται υπερ αυτων

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 15:29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

Does anyone have any ideas about what Paul is saying here?
It sounds like he is speaking about being baptized on behalf of dead people. This of course is the Mormon position. What are your thoughts on this passage?

I have two possible explanations but I'd like to hear from others.

- Thanks

(1 Cor 1:17 KJV)For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
In 1 Cor 1:17 AD 59 Christ( Mashach )sends (Paul) not to baptize therefore we know 1 Cor 15:29 AD 59 cannot be water baptism or any baptism for salvation if Christ commands Paul not to baptize in 1 Cor 1:17.
Not to baptize was a command to Paul = (1 Cor 14:37 KJV) If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of Mashach.

Paul as apostle and teacher of the Gentiles heathen never again baptizes after 1 Cor 1:17 AD 59 and never teaches water baptism in any of the 12 epistles that he writes after 1 Cor 1:17 AD 59...........
Paul was totally obedient to the commandment of ( Mashach) not to baptize heathen Gentiles but preach the cross………

Paul's gospel of the uncircumcision was to  the heathen Gentiles heathen and his gospel of the uncircumcision was first preached by YHWH God Almighty to Abram the Hebrew descendant of the Noah a Gentile. = (Gal 3:8 KJV) And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

(Gen 13:16 KJV) And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. (Gen 15:5 KJV) And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be…………..

YHWH never water baptized when he preached the gospel to Abram/Abraham neither covenants/gospels of the uncircumcision or the circumcision required water baptism for salvation………..the old and new covenant both required the blood of the Lamb and not city water………You cannot pay a city water bill for salvation. YHWH never water baptized Israel in the Red Sea but rather unto Moses = (1 Cor 10:2 KJV) And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

Those O.T. Jewish saints of Matt 27:52-53 were never water baptized and yet they were resurrected with Yehoshua as the one body of Mashachs……….
(Mat 27:52 KJV) And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,………..(Mat 27:53 KJV) And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many………….
