It\u2019s a key milestone in restoring the earliest, Jewish voice of the Good News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s next: restoring the original Hebrew and Aramaic of the Four Gospels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With this book out, I\u2019m already deep into the next step: <strong>a restoration of the original Hebrew and Aramaic of the Four Gospels<\/strong>\u2014produced in <strong>Jewish Western Aramaic and Hebrew<\/strong>, with a <strong>literal English translation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why this approach?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Old Syriac Gospels (Sinaitic &amp; Curetonian)<\/strong> preserve a stream of the Gospel tradition that reflects <strong>Jewish Western Aramaic<\/strong> idiom and thought\u2014often <strong>earlier and more Semitic<\/strong> than later church-standardized forms. They\u2019re not mere \u201ctranslations of Greek,\u201d but <strong>revisions of an older, Jewish Aramaic Gospel tradition<\/strong> that still peeks through in wording, syntax, and idioms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By contrast, the <strong>Peshitta<\/strong>\u2014though precious\u2014<strong>is a later revision<\/strong> of that Old Syriac tradition, <strong>realigned toward the Greek Byzantine text-type<\/strong> and smoothed to fit post-Nicene theology and idiom. This is why it often reads \u201ccleaner\u201d but less Semitic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The larger picture that emerges is a <strong>Semitic textual history<\/strong>: <strong>Hebrew originals \u2192 early Jewish Western Aramaic \u2192 Old Syriac \u2192 Western-type Greek<\/strong> (the rough, Semitic-sounding Greek) \u2192 <strong>Alexandrian\/Byzantine Greek<\/strong>; and the <strong>Peshitta<\/strong> reflects a <strong>revision toward Byzantine Greek<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practically, this means my restoration will <strong>collate the Old Syriac readings<\/strong> with <strong>early Peshitta witnesses<\/strong> (e.g., <strong>Codex Phillipps 1388<\/strong>), identifying where Semitic forms survived before later harmonization\u2014and then <strong>render those in Jewish Western Aramaic and Hebrew with a literal English translation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why not just stick to Greek? Because time and again we see that <strong>the most awkward, \u201cun-Greek\u201d features in early witnesses are exactly what we expect from literal renderings of Semitic originals<\/strong>\u2014a signpost pointing back to the <strong>Hebrew\/Aramaic substrate<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Put simply: <strong>this project aims to let the earliest Jewish voice of the Gospels speak again<\/strong>\u2014in the languages in which Yeshua and His first disciples taught, with a transparent English that doesn\u2019t hide the Semitic texture. The Old Syriac especially <strong>\u201copens a window into the authentic linguistic and cultural world\u201d<\/strong> of the earliest Gospel strata and <strong>\u201cpreserves the voice of Jewish disciples before [later] Hellenistic\u201d<\/strong> smoothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why this matters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our research continues to confirm the core thesis: <strong>the New Testament books were originally composed in Hebrew and Aramaic<\/strong>, and the Greek we know is, in many places, a translation or paraphrase of that Semitic base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recovering the Semitic shape of the Gospels clarifies difficult passages, restores idioms, and re-centers the narrative in its <strong>Jewish<\/strong> linguistic and cultural home.
