Shalom, friends! If you\u2019ve ever wondered what the faithful remnant<\/strong> looks like in the last days, the Book of Revelation paints the picture in stereo. It describes a people who\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. \u201cKeep the commandments of Elohim\u201d<\/strong> (that\u2019s Torah), and<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. \u201cHold the testimony \/ faith of Yeshua.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    That two-part identity shows up again and again (Rev 1 : 2, 9; 6 : 9; 12 : 17; 14 : 12; 15 : 3; 20 : 4). John even hears the overcomers burst into a mash-up worship set\u2014\u201cthe Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb\u201d<\/strong> (15 : 3). Think about it: Sinai and Golgotha in the same chorus!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    John repeatedly defines the faithful not by either\/or but by both\/and<\/strong>: covenant obedience and Messianic faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A Flashback to the First Few Centuries<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    This combo isn\u2019t new. Fourth-century Church writers\u2014who weren\u2019t exactly fans of Torah-keeping believers\u2014still recorded that a community called the Nazarenes<\/strong> looked just like Revelation\u2019s remnant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Jerome<\/strong> (c. 398 CE) says they were \u201cthose\u2026 who accept Messiah in such a way that they do not cease<\/strong> to observe the old Law<\/em>\u201d (Commentary on Isaiah 8 : 14<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    Epiphanius<\/strong> (c. 375 CE) grumbles that the Nazarenes \u201care simply complete Jews\u2026 They read the Law, Prophets, and Writings in Hebrew, yet believe Yeshua is the Messiah<\/em>\u201d (Panarion 29<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    They worshipped Yeshua and<\/strong> kept Shabbat, ate kosher, circumcised their sons, and read Matthew in Hebrew. Epiphanius thought that was a problem; John the Revelator calls it \u201cperseverance.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
