For those of us in the movement of <strong>Nazarene Judaism<\/strong>\u2014who follow Yeshua as the promised Messiah of Israel and uphold the Torah as eternal\u2014we see a striking irony: the Quran repeatedly appeals to the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospel as sources of truth, while modern Islamic theology simultaneously undermines them as &#8220;corrupted.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the Quran itself will not support such a view. Let\u2019s examine the evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcd6 The Quran Affirms the Inspiration of the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Over and over again, the Quran appeals to earlier Scriptures as divinely inspired revelations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Torah<\/strong>:<br><em>\u201cLo! We did reveal the Torah, wherein is guidance and a light\u2026\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Surah 5:44<\/strong><br><em>\u201cAnd verily We gave unto Moses the Scripture\u2026\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Surah 2:87<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Psalms (Zabur)<\/strong>:<br><em>\u201cAnd as We imparted unto David the Psalms.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Surah 4:163<\/strong><br><em>\u201cAnd unto David We gave the Psalms.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Surah 17:55<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gospel (Injil)<\/strong>:<br><em>\u201cAnd We bestowed on him the Gospel wherein is guidance and light, confirming that which was (revealed) before it in the Torah.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Surah 5:46<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Quran commands the <strong>People of the Book<\/strong>\u2014Jews and Christians\u2014to <strong>judge by what God has revealed to them<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cLet the People of the Gospel judge by that which Allah hath revealed therein. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are evil-livers.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Surah 5:47<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not marginal. It is central to the Quran\u2019s message: that Muhammad\u2019s message <strong>confirms<\/strong> the previous scriptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2753What About the Claim of Corruption?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some Muslims today respond by claiming that the Bible has been \u201ccorrupted.\u201d But this leads to a fatal dilemma:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 1: The Corruption Happened <strong>Before<\/strong> Muhammad<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If this were true, then it makes no sense for the Quran to instruct the Jews and Christians of Muhammad\u2019s time to consult their Scriptures for guidance and confirmation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Torah and Gospel were already corrupted, why would the Quran command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cSay (O Muhammad): O People of the Scripture! Ye have naught (of guidance) till ye observe the Torah and the Gospel\u2026\u201d<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Surah 5:68<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This would be like sending someone to a poisoned well and telling them to drink deeply. It simply doesn\u2019t add up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 2: The Corruption Happened <strong>After<\/strong> Muhammad<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is even more problematic, because our oldest manuscripts of the Torah, Psalms, and Gospels <strong>predate Muhammad<\/strong> by centuries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dead Sea Scrolls<\/strong>: Date from 2nd century BCE \u2013 1st century CE.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiticus<\/strong>: 4th century CE New Testament manuscripts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cairo Genizah and Septuagint<\/strong>: Testify to the unbroken preservation of the Tanakh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, the Bible we have today <strong>is the same<\/strong> as the one known in Muhammad\u2019s time\u2014if not earlier. If Muslims say the Bible was changed after Muhammad, history disproves them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4e Nazarene Judaism and the Unchanging Word of God<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As a Nazarene Jew, I accept the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) and the Gospel accounts of Yeshua (Jesus) as part of one continuous revelation. The Quran claims to confirm this revelation\u2014but then denies the very truths it affirms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It denies the <strong>Sonship<\/strong> of Messiah (Surah 4:171, 19:35), even after affirming his virgin birth.<br>It denies the <strong>crucifixion<\/strong> (Surah 4:157), even though history and the Gospels are united on this point.<br>It calls Yeshua the <strong>Messiah<\/strong> (Surah 3:45, 4:171), and admits he performed miracles and was born of a virgin\u2014yet insists he was \u201conly a messenger.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can one be the Messiah, raise the dead, and be born of a virgin, yet still be \u201conly\u201d a messenger?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 Conclusion: The Quran Cannot Refute What It Confirms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Quran appeals to the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospel. It affirms their divine origin. It even commands us to judge by their contents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we follow that command\u2014if we do what the Quran tells us to do\u2014we are led not to Islam, but to <strong>the truth of the Hebrew Scriptures<\/strong> and the <strong>Messiah Yeshua<\/strong> revealed in the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is why <strong>Nazarene Judaism<\/strong> stands firm: we do not need to invent a new religion. We return to the ancient one. To the Torah. To the Prophets.
