Another passage that has been frequently quoted in an attempt to wrongly teach that circumcision has been abolished is Philippians 3:2.  The following are a number of translations of this verse taken from the Greek:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh.<\/strong><\/em>
(Phil. 3:2 NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision;<\/strong>
(Phil. 3:2 NAS)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the circumcision.<\/strong><\/em>
(Phil. 3:2 KJV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some have even mistranslated the Aramaic so as to agree with the false Greek reading:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of dogs; beware of evildoers; beware of the circumcisers.<\/strong><\/em>
(Phil. 3:2  Aramaic Bible in Plain English, Bauscher)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of vicious men, beware of evil workers, beware of circumcising.<\/strong><\/em>
(Phil. 3:2 Lamsa)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

However this translation is totally without basis in the Aramaic. <\/em><\/strong> The Aramaic reads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u05d0\u05d6\u05d3\u05d4\u05e8\u05d5 \u05de\u05df \u05db\u05dc\u05d1\u05d0 \u05d0\u05d6\u05d3\u05d4\u05e8\u05d5 \u05de\u05df \u05e4\u05e2\u05dc\u05d0 \u05d1\u05d9\u05e9\u05d0 \u05d0\u05d6\u05d3\u05d4\u05e8\u05d5 \u05de\u05df \u05e4\u05e1\u05e7 \u05d1\u05e1\u05e8\u05d0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is literally rendered in the HRV:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of dogs; beware of evildoers; beware of the cutting of flesh<\/strong>.<\/span><\/em>
(Phil. 3:2 HRV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aramaic is also similarly translated in the Murdock and Etheridge translations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of dogs; beware of evil doers; beware of the clipped in flesh<\/strong>.<\/em>
(Phil. 3:2  Murdock)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the cutting of the flesh<\/span><\/strong>.<\/em>
(Phil. 3:2  Etheridge)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This passage is not speaking about circumcision at all.  Instead it is referring back to the Gentile practice of making tattoos, which is forbidden by the Torah:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh<\/strong> <\/span>for the dead, nor imprint any marks<\/em> upon you: I am YHWH.<\/em>
(Lev. 19:28 HRV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n
