(64% of Hebrew Luke can be restored from Hebrew Matthew, and 55% of Hebrew Mark can be restored from Hebrew Matthew).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This brings up the question of Gospel Origins. As anyone who studies the first three Gospels quickly notices, much of the same material, in the same, or almost the same words, appears in each of these Gospels. Some material is common to all three, and some appears in two of the three. This has resulted in several theories of Gospel origins, designed to explain the common origin of the shared material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many scholars through the years have seen within the <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/em><\/strong>, possible answers to questions about synoptic origins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1778 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gotthold_Ephraim_Lessing\">Gotthold Ephraim Lessing<\/a> (1729-1781) known as a founder of the Scientific Method, proposed the idea that the <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/em><\/strong> was the primary source for our Synoptic Gospels. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scripturerestorationproject.com\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=155&amp;action=edit#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1866 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adolf_Bernhard_Christoph_Hilgenfeld\">Hilgenfeld<\/a> concluded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>At length the Gospel according to the Hebrews offers those<\/em> <em>of us who are investigating the origin of the gospels the<\/em> <strong><em>punctum Archimedis [point of origin] <\/em><\/strong><em>which so many learned men have<\/em> <em>vainly sought in the Gospel according to Mark<\/em>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scripturerestorationproject.com\/2020\/09\/14\/restoring-the-original-synoptic-source-gospel\/#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1905 A. S. Barnes proposed an identification between the <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/em><\/strong> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Logia\">Logia<\/a> document which many scholars closely associate with the hypothetical <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Q_source\">\u201cQ\u201d<\/a> document Barnes writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Is it possible seriously to maintain that there were two separate<\/em> <em>documents, each of them written at Jerusalem during the Apostolic age and in the Hebrew tongue, each of them assigned to the Apostle Matthew, and each of them dealing in some way with the Gospel story? Or are we not rather forced to the conclusion that these two documents, whose descriptions are so strangely similar, must really be identical,\u2026<\/em> <em>(A. S. Barnes; <strong>The Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/strong>;<\/em> <em>Journal of Theological Studies 6 (1905) p. 361)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1940 Pierson Parker concluded that a close connection existed between the <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews <\/em><\/strong>and the hypothetical \u201cProto-Luke\u201d and the hypothetical \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/L_Source\">L-Source<\/a>\u201d document:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2026the presence in this gospel of Lukan qualities and parallels,<\/em> <em>the absence from it of definitive\u2026 Markan elements\u2026 all point<\/em> <em>to one conclusion, viz., that the source of the Gospel according<\/em> <em>to the Hebrews\u2026 was most closely related to sources underlying the non-Markan parts of Luke, that is, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/L_Source\">Proto-Luke.<\/a><\/em> <em>(Pierson Parker; <strong>A Proto-Lukan Basis for the Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/strong>; Journal of Biblical Literature 59 (1940) p. 478)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And Hugh Schonfield concluded of the <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2026it may be argued that there has been dependence not of \u2018Hebrews\u2019 on the Synoptics but vice versa\u2013 that \u2018Hebrews\u2019 was one of the sources on which one or more of them drew.<\/em> <em>(Hugh Schonfield; <strong>According to the Hebrews<\/strong>; 1937;pp. 13-18)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why this restoration of the Scriptures must include restoration of the <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/em><\/strong>. Because the <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews<\/em><\/strong> was the original Jewish Gospel which was the source for Matthew, Mark and Luke (and even to some degree, John).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><em>Gospel according to the Hebrews <\/em><\/strong>is the source for the common material appearing in Matthew, Mark and Luke. And therefore we will be able to use these three Gospels, along with the fifty or so quotations from this lost Jewish Gospel, which appear in the Church Fathers, along with other sources and clues (which I will discuss in future blogs), to restore the original Hebrew of this original lost Jewish Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scripturerestorationproject.com\/2020\/09\/14\/restoring-the-original-synoptic-source-gospel\/#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> The Hilbert Journal 3 (1904); The Gospel according to the Hebrews; Walter F.
