There are three things that are never satisfied, yes four, that say not, Enough:<br>(Proverbs 30:15 HRV)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>horseleach<\/em><\/strong> The Hebrew is <em><strong>Alukah<\/strong><\/em> (\u05e2\u05dc\u05d5\u05e7\u05d4) which only appears in this one place in the Hebrew Tanak.  Its actual meaning is a matter of debate.  The Aramaic equivalent \u05e2\u05dc\u05d5\u05e7\u05d0 appears in the Peshitta Aramaic, which Lamsa translates &#8220;glutton&#8221;.  According to one Jewish tradition, this word refers to a blood sucking demon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We read in the Talmud:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Alukah hath two daughters: Give, give. What is meant by \u2018Give, give\u2019? Said Mar \u2018Ukba: It is the voice of the two daughters who cry from Gehenna calling to this world: Bring, bring! And who are they? Minuth (apostasy) and the Government. Some report: Said R. Hisda in the name of Mar \u2018Ukba: It is the voice of Hell crying and calling: Bring me the two daughters who cry and call in this world, \u2018Bring, bring.\u2019<br>(b.Avodah Zarah 17a)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here an Alukah is not merely a leech.  A leech does not have daughters in Gehenna.  An Alukah is a blood consuming demon.  According to the Book of Enoch, certain of the giant sons of the fallen angels &#8220;conspired to slay men and to devour mankind&#8230; and to devour one another&#8217;s flesh, and drink the blood.&#8221; (1Enoch 7:4-5)  At the flood the giants became evil spirits on the earth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>8 And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. \u00a0<\/em><br><em>9 Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men and from the set-apart Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called.<\/em><br><em>10 [As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.]<\/em><br><em>11 And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless hunger and thirst, and cause offenses.<\/em><br><em>12 And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them.<\/em><br><em>(1En. 15:8-12).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Sefer Chasidim an Alukah is understood to be a living human being that can transform into a wolf, can fly and would eventually die if prevented from feeding on blood.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>30:15 The horseleech has two daughters, Give, give.
